Yesterday an untethered jailbreak solution for iOS 7.0.x called evasi0n7 was released. The release generated a lot of controversy within the jailbreak community mostly because Cydia developers have not been involved in the jailbreak process, not to mention that the new evasi0n7 automatically replaced Cydia with a Chinese application store named Taig. This app store appears on Chinese devices with Cydia option deselected natively.
Explaining the decision to collect nearly $ 1 million for collaborating with a Chinese company that owns the Taig, a pirated App Store, Evad3rs blamed @saurik, Cydia founder, that he forced them to launch evasi0n7 prematurely otherwise they risk losing the amount promised by the Chinese investors. Also, the Cydia developer is working along with other companies to launch a separate jailbreak solution, thus Evad3rs taking the decision to launch their iOS 7 jailbreak solution before them.
Evad3rs argue that by collaborating with Taig they just offer an alternative to Cydia, concluding a contract with that company and thus forcing them to not distribute pirated applications.
Also, Evad3rs explains that negotiating with @saurik to compensate their work failed to reach an agreement, accepting a much better offer from Taiga.
@geohot, the famous U.S. hacker, was the third piece of the puzzle and one of the biggest problems for Evad3rs. The jailbreak developer worked separately on an untethered jailbreak solutions for iOS 7, willing to receive only $ 350,000 for publication. Basically this was the straw that broke the camel’s back and finally forcing Evad3rs to rush the release.
@geohot has released a recording of a conversation saying that the sale was not going to happen as he intended to launch a public jailbreak solution.
Although many people enjoy the evasi0n7 release, even the jailbreak tool is semi-useless for now, the problem is that its lifetime will be very short. Apple now has the solution and certainly will begin a process of blocking all the vulnerabilities in iOS 7.1, OS version that will be released soon, thus evasi0n7 becoming useless.
Given that it will take between 1-3 weeks for Cydia applications to be updated many jailbreak users will be forced to skip the latest version of iOS.
