After several months of waiting, the well-known torrent site KickassTorrents is back online, thanks to the efforts of the former administrators. In July, KickassTorrents disappeared overnight from the internet after his founder, Artem Vaulin, was arrested, but looks like the authorities have failed to shut it down.
For several days rumors emerged that KickassTorrents might return in February, when Vaulin is likely to be released on bail, but things happened very quickly. Some of the people devoted to the project revived the site, trying to bring it back to glory.
The new version of the site was released today, December 16 and is fully functional. It looks completely identical to its predecessor the original, but unfortunately the database start from scratch. However, the great news is that the team, including uploaders, previously worked on Kickass Torrents remained to carry the project forward.
“In order to keep our members safe we chose to rebuild and keep only safe elements. Despite the fact that a rebuild took longer, the safety of our community comes first,” says Katcr.
After KickassTorrents was closed in July, a bunch of alternatives have emerged, but they just disappeared quite quickly. There were even clone sites that were designed to steal personal data, but the team behind the new KickassTorrents assures users that they will not have to deal with such issues.
Given that the US authorities still have lawsuits against the original founder, it may be only a matter of time before they will try to close the new KickassTorrents.
The new torrent site can be accessed from here. Given its popularity, it is likely that high traffic will cause some problems in the next few hours and days, so be patient and try again later.
